Design case 2: Reduced Order Modeling of Coupled Systems

Design case 1 has demonstrated the common approach of using analytical models
for the early phases of design and finite element simulations for a comprehensive
study of the component behaviour. This procedure is very accurate but requires un-
reasonable large computing time, especially for harmonic and transient analyses.

Design case 2 shall illustrate the enormous speed up of coupled domain simulations
which becomes possible after the finite elements models are reduced to low order black-
box models with a few input and output terminals. Remarkable is that the Reduced Order
Models achieve almost the same accuracy as that of full finite element runs but can be
processed with speed known from circuit and system simulators.
